The Lover's Dictionary

Source

I vaguely remember having read a blog entry about this by a friend, and I came across it once again when Fully Booked on twitter mentioned it and the new Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan in twitter-form. It's a lovely book; it's a love story written in dictionary form, defining words in the context of love.

Some excerpts:

besotted, adj.: Ninth date, I was so lovedazed that when the check came, I signed your name instead of mine.
beg, v.: I want you to want me.
banish, v.: You still think that someday your prince will come, and sometimes I catch you looking for him, when you think I don’t notice.
anonymous, adj.: There may have been times before we met when we passed each other on the street or in a museum, unaware. That astounds me.
anchor, v.: I drift, I drift, I drift, you stay.
amatory, adj.: You rest your palm on my back, and I feel it there for a second after it leaves, like the hum after the orchestra finishes.
alluvion, n.: Is love the water or the shore?
birdsong, n.: Awake before you, lying there, window open; the sound glimmers into the room, and I feel weightless.
